We’ve all heard of painting parties—wine, canvases, brushes and friends. And they’re a great time! But what if you could throw a HOUSE painting party… Same idea as the wine and painting parties, yet you’re getting your room painted in the process! Genius. So how do you sweeten the deal enough to actually get your friends to attend and help without tricking them? Don’t worry, we’ve got some great ideas to get you started.
First of all, you’ll need to be mentally prepared. Your friends may not paint up to your standards. You’ll have to be willing and able to accept this. The tradeoff is that you’ll get your room(s) painted a whole lot faster than doing it alone, and it will be a fun, sociable time that you’ll remember every time you walk into that room.
Once you’re mentally prepared, you need to gather supplies. Have your colour scheme all picked out, your walls primed and your paints ready. We recommend using natural, organic paints that don’t release toxic VOCs into the air—not a good mixture with wine and finger foods! Don’t forget to supply enough rollers and brushes for everyone. Divvy up jobs amongst guests and don’t overcrowd. A couple people on the ceiling, two on walls, one on trim; you get the idea!
When the painting is done and guests are cleaned up, it’s time to eat! You could go for the typical pizza and beer type party atmosphere if that’s what appeals to you, or you could make it more gourmet with a big pot of spaghetti and wine or a couple pans of chicken enchiladas with margaritas. Set a festive mood that will keep people moving with some good music playing in the background. Don’t forget to take pictures! This is sure to be a fun-filled event that you’ll want to remember forever.
